Deep Water Fields

Clear vision when you’re "in deep".

In offshore acreage, salt tectonics, or complex structural settings such as overthrust belts, the value of seeing prospective areas in depth cannot be overstated. The comprehensive velocity modeling and imaging capabilities from Paradigm provide high quality images. Migrated pre-stack volumes are then available in the interpretation workstation for structural and quantitative interpretation, pore pressure analysis and geomechanical studies. In addition, our high-pressure, high-temperature drilling modeling application helps engineers understand drilling risks.

True full-azimuth imaging – another Paradigm first

Imagine lowering a camera into the earth's subsurface and recording a continuous animation in all directions and angles. EarthStudy 360® makes this level of detail possible. The full-azimuth angle domain imaging and analysis system uses the complete recorded wavefield, to provide a highly accurate and detailed description of the subsurface. Unlike traditional approaches that use limited surface azimuth sectors of imaged seismic data, this process recovers 360 degrees of full azimuth data, in-situ, in depth, and over all reflection angles. As a result, observation, measurement, and interpretation of subtle structure, salt flanks, fracture, and elastic properties are more visible, repeatable, and quantifiable. Equally important, project turnaround times are dramatically improved so that geoscientists and reservoir engineers can effectively use outputs when developing the field.

Understanding and modeling risk

Understanding pore pressure is very important in deep prospects. Pore pressure predictions can be made based on seismic velocities and calibrated to well information. Seismic velocities can be better defined with a 3D model that includes the major structures and major stratigraphic elements. Automatic Fault Extraction (AFE) can be used to rapidly assess complex fault systems in 3D data, and the Coherence Cube* technology highlights depositional systems even before interpretation takes place.

Sub-salt imaging can be very tricky. Our illumination analysis tools integrated into our interpretation solution provide key interpretation and imaging validation tools.

Geomechanical risks associated with deep water plays need to be understood, and our geomechanical mesh creation tool inside the structural 3D model can be exchanged with geomechanical software.

Creating a drill plan for high pressure and high temperatures is supported in our drilling application. For example, Sysdrill Fluid Temperature Modeling allows for accurate prediction of ECD and ESD downhole mud density and rheology under HPHT conditions.
