Geolog 21

Geolog 21 has been designed with user convenience in mind – from enhanced automation and new petrophysical functionalities, to increased openness through expanded connectivity to the Open Group Open Subsurface Data Universe™ (OSDU™).

Geolog 21 has added new and enhanced functionality to technologies that support additional markets, such as carbon capture and storage (CCS), geothermal energy, radioactive waste disposal and mining.  



Reduce Time to Results through Automation and Connectivity

Automatic parameter picking
  • A new Automated Parameter Picking module in Determin enables Quick Look multi-well petrophysical analysis.
  • Parameters are automatically stored in the well for immediate use in any deterministic interpretation module.  
  • Automation of manual tasks enables quick look workflow to reduce time to results
Well inventory view
  • A new view for rapidly analyzing, filtering and selecting well data at the project scale
  • Provides an overview of the well data content in a project or project subset
  • Each type of well data can be drilled into to enumerate these instances both through the Preview option in Well Inventory view and by displaying them in Well Catalog view
  • Information about timing of activity for each well is provided by detailing:
    • The first and last audit trail entries
    • The number of audit trail entries
  • Accelerates the selection of relevant data and allows the collection and exposure of more Geolog data for analytics
Enriched Petrophysical Functionalities Expand User Capabilities

New tools for Determin and Multmin

  • Additional neutron tools added to Multimin
  • 3 more user-defined minerals added to Multimin
  • XRF data can be used as input equations in a Multimin model
  • Neutron porosity equations rather than chart lookup can be used to compute apparent or effective porosity computation in Determin
  • Determin hydrocarbon corrected porosity has the option to use either Bateman-Konen porosity or a specific neutron tool porosity equation
  • Shale volume exponents for the Indonesia saturation model can be user-defined
  • Continuous investment in expanding and enhancing functionalities for use in the widest range of depositional environments
Processing and interpretation of LWD NMR tools
  • New workflows for in-house processing and interpretation of NMR data from LWD tools (added to previously available wireline NMR tool support)
  • The following tools are supported:
    • Baker Hughes MagTrak NMR
    • Halliburton MRIL-WD NMR
    • Schlumberger proVISION
  • Accelerates the in-house processing (or reprocessing) and interpretation process of LWD NMR tools
Updated Rock Physics module
  • Rock physics modeling and elastic property management in carbonates
  • All log and constant names are consistent across all modules
  • Several modules have been updated with new methods
  • When applicable, individual modules have been combined into a single one
  • A new Xu-Payne module for modeling elastic rock properties in carbonate rocks.
  • The Solid Grain Mixture module allows modeling of elastic properties for all minerals available in Multimin 
  • Ensures consistent petrophysics and rock physics interpretation workflows

Production Logging – support for array spinner tools
Expanded Production Logging functionalities to allow processing and interpretation of array production logs.
  • Allows the interpretation of multi-phase flow regimes in high angle and horizontal wells.


Expanded Support for New Energy Workflows

Geochemistry – water analysis

  • Geochemistry functionalities have been expanded with the addition of a water analysis workflow. This new workflow offers a variety of modules and plots to help assess:
    • Type and origin of the water
    • Water interaction with host rock and other injected fluids
    • Physical, electrical and thermodynamic properties
    • Behavior during production (scaling, corrosion)
    • Suitability for human use (drinking, irrigation)
  • The ability to assess and report sub-surface water reservoir properties and quality in different prospects, including traditional oil & gas basins, geothermal and water resource prospects


Display of well schematics on progress plot 

  • Used in geothermal energy and carbon capture and storage (CCS)


Shows well progress plot and the evolution of completions over time. This is useful in various domains, including geothermal energy and carbon capture and storage (CCS).


Increased Openness
Support for OSDU R3 read/write connectivity
  • Loading OSDU R3 Well Log data in a Geolog Project is available with the OSDU importer module. 
  • New log data and associated PDF files (reports, plots) can be sent from Geolog back to the OSDU R3 instance.

Support for Petrel 2021

  • Further evidence of Emerson’s ongoing commitment to the Open Group’s OSDU (Open Subsurface Data Universe) initiative.

  • Continuous updates to third-party connectivity
